Dear Friends and Family As most of you know, diabetes research is especially important to us. Emma is 10 year and has had Type 1 diabetes for nearly 5 years. In some ways it’s hard to believe it has been 5 years. We have learned to live with the daily routine of injections, blood sugar checks and food management. And when things are going well it is routine. People often ask us if it has gotten easier and I can say “yes” except when it is going badly. Most exasperating is that things can change in a short 2-3 hours and often do. This unpredictable lack of blood sugar control and the subsequent potential complications involving her vasculature are our biggest worry. This summer Emma starts medical management involving the complications of her disease. The 5 year mark is the time that complications from diabetes may begin to become apparent. Her eyes, kidneys and heart will be evaluated for vascular damage this summer and every year for the rest of her life. That is why we are asking for your help in supporting research.

We need people like you on my team. Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference towards finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.
