Beat the Bridge 2008

KZ's Plumbing

As you may know, our team has accepted the challenge of participating in the 26th annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes on Sunday, May 18. The event benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and its mission to find a cure for diabetes and end its often deadly complications. I have signed up to be the Team Captain for our team and look forward to the opportunity of leading the team fundraising efforts.
We are eager to get started and need your support! Our team has pledged to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Your support will help uncover the clues to finding the cure through the support of research and education about research. It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause. Please consider joining our team as a participant or you can make a donation online by simply clicking on the donate button on the side of this page. Whatever you can do will help! I truly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

Did you know that more than one million Americans have juvenile (type 1) diabetes; a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.  Someone is diagnosed with juvenile diabetes every 40 seconds.  It can and does strike adults as well.

In juvenile diabetes, a person's pancreas produces little or no insulin, a hormone necessary to sustain life. Although the causes are not entirely known, scientists believe the body's own immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.  It is not caused by obesity or by eating excessive sugar, which are two common myths about juvenile diabetes.  Each year approximately 30,000 Americans are diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, over 13,000 of whom are children.  That's 35 children each and every day.

I know diabetes likely touches your life in some way.  Think about the ways that diabetes has impacted those around you.  The money we raise will go to finding a cure and bring and end to this disease for the millions who have to endure its deadly complications.

We need your support, so please do anything you can, join our team, register as an individual or make a donation on my behalf.

Thank you so much for all of your support and we look forward to seeing you at Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes on Sunday, May 18!
